Launch of the Courthouse
Cinema Club
————– NORMAN BARRY
The team at the Courthouse are delighted to welcome you all to the first screening of our new community cinema.
This screening is May 14th at 6.30pm. As well as showing this exciting & tense thriller we are going to have extra activities to highlight the connections between the lighthouse
setting & Arbroath. Arbroath is world famous for many things; its Smokies; the Declaration of Arbroath; and its Abbey. Tonight we’ll focus on the importance of the sea and the Bell Rock lighthouse to the town.
We are delighted to welcome our special guest, Mr John Boath who will be back in Arbroath to help us launch the Community Cinema. John was the last lighthouse keeper to live on the Bell Rock & had the honour of turning off the lights for the last time before the new automated system took over. He is an entertaining speaker and will be happy to share what life was really like living in a lighthouse.
We are also delighted to welcome our charity partner for the evening, Scotland The Wave.
Nicky Matthews, who lives in Arbroath, will be here to represent the first all female crew from Scotland to attempt to row across the Atlantic later this year. They are collecting for some great and worthy charities based around Scotland, including the Arbroath RNLI.
Nicky will be available to answer your questions on what they are expecting to face on their epic voyage.
Also for the first time, the Courthouse has a licence, which means we can offer a range of
alcoholic drinks alongside some lovely snacks, & of course Popcorn! Finally, we are indebted to The Townhouse Hotel, just across the street from the Courthouse, who have very generously supported the cinema club for its first three months. They run a great bar
and restaurant and we hope you will be able to visit them soon.

Roxie Hart is a small-time chorus dancer who would kill for fame. After doing just that, she lands behind bars alongside vaudeville star Velma Kelly, who, with the help of hotshot lawyer Billy Flynn, has spun her crime into a media frenzy. When Flynn takes Roxie’s case, he makes her the latest tabloid sensation, setting the stage for a singing, dancing catfight between the all-too-willing rivals.
